Julie Ann Miller is an Asheville, NC–based artist whose work is both a personal outlet and an exploration of the marks every encounter leaves—on herself, on others, and on the world. Using an intuitive, brush-free painting process, she responds directly to her experiences, shaped by the sensory lens of her neurodiverse perspective. Sunlight through leaves, mountain hikes, and the shifting rhythms of relationships all influence her visual language, which reflects the imprints we carry and the ones we leave behind.
Her practice explores themes of anxiety, miscommunication, and the changing nature of human identity. Each piece becomes a raw response to the chaos and relief of adulthood, capturing the intensity of friendships, fleeting moments, painful world events, and connections as lasting as stone. Every mark speaks to both the fragility and resilience of human bonds, always grounded in the shifting landscapes of self and environment.
